Question about medical school for psychiatry?
I currently go to school online and work full-time with a bank. I changed my major earlier this year from finance to psychology. What I really want to do is be a psychiatrist. I have a 3.45 GPA and I will be finishing my associates in November so I will have enough time to bring that up to at least a 3.6. I plan on attending a 4 yr university (probably local for financial reasons) and then probably do a minor or second major in biology. I have a lot of volunteer experience with the march of dimes, the hospital, and a daycare center. I also have experience working in a hospital while I was in Nursing School a couple of years ago (I decided that wasn’t for me). What are my chances that if I do well in the last two years of school (of course), that I will be able to get into a decent medical school? Consider that I am a current psych major and want to have at least a minor in biology.

I’d say you’re on a great track! The best thing to do is demonstrate to the schools that you are willing to put in the effort to keep up in the competitive field–but it looks like you’re doing a great job at that
My only question is this: You have not listed the courses that you have taken previously or are about to take. Have you taken the required science courses? Here’s the list of programs that I’m taking/will take:
Orgo [1 year]
Inorganic chemistry [1 year]
physics [1 year]
calculus [semester]
biology [1 year]
english [1 years]
and by "year," I mean two semseters worth of classes.
Each Med school is different, but these are generally the courses they look to see you’ve completed.
Have you taken your MCAT?
If you can, keep volunteering in health-related settings [hospital, etc]. Med schools look for this kind of involvement.
Best wishes!

I sure hope your online credits will be accepted by the university. If you haven’t verified it for yourself with the university, do that immediately. Too often, these online schools dupe people into thinking that since they are accredited that their credits are accepted at standard colleges and universities. More often that not, that’s not true.
If they are accepted, thumbs up to you. It sounds like you have some decent experience.
