Tips For Choosing Online Universities
Everybody has their own opinions about online education, and quite frankly some of that information can be a little one sided. Here, I’m going to outline 10 tips you can use when searching for an accredited university online.
,) Do not register for a course if it is not from an accredited institution. This will hurt your chances of transferring to other colleges, if the online institution is not credible.
.) Make sure that the accrediting agency is legitimate. There are many degree mills out there and many of them also run so-called accreditation agencies. To be fully legitimate, a business entity must be government approved. Thus, one of the best ways to trust an accreditation agency is to find out if it’s been approved by the United States Department of Education.
.) Make sure that the degree course you are considering fits in your educational and career long range plans. For instance, if you are thinking about an associate degree program, and you later want to pursue a bachelor’s degree, find out if your coursework will allow the transfer to another accredited university. Whether it be an online or on site college that accepts credits.
.) Do some research on the class size of the institution you are considering. Class size is just as important as it is to a traditional classroom.
.) Find out what the faculties qualifications are. What degrees they hold and from what institutions? In what fields are their experiences? How long have they been teaching and how long have they been teaching online classes? Look out for professors that hold degrees from the colleges that they themselves are teaching at. This may lead to some problems.
.) Always consider the level of support offered to students? How easy does the institution of higher learning make it for students to contact their instructors or tutors in case they need help? Choose not only an accredited university online, but also an institution that offers support that meets with your needs and expectations.
.) Don’t let anyone pressure you into beginning a program if you do not feel you have the time and commitment. It’s always best to follow it thoroughly with the time and effort that is required to achieve your greatest success. Sign up only when you feel you are ready.
.) Determine if the certification can be completed entirely online or if some on site project work or residency periods will be required.
.) Research about financial aid options that the institution has available. This could be loans, scholarships or tuition installment plans that can make it much more affordable.
.) Probably the most important feature, online degree options are not as limited as they were 10-15 years ago, so do not settle for anything less. Request information from 5 or 6 of your top colleges and go for the one that appears to offer the course you want the most. These ten tips above will guide you in your college selection process. You are more than likely to get an accredited university online that fits both your needs and expectations.
